Congratulations
to Irene Gordon on her new book
"People of the Fur Trade: From Native Trappers to Chief
Factors", launched in October 2011.
The
PWAC Manitoba Chapter comprises one of the two largest memberships in
the Prairies and the North Region which includes chapters in
Saskatchewan, Calgary, Edmonton and members-at-large in the
North.
PWAC
Manitoba did not officially gain chapter status until 1985 but a
dedicated handful of members in Winnipeg were meeting on a
regular
basis as early as 1977. Under the leadership of Sarah
Yates,
PWAC Manitoba was instrumental in reaching out
to other writers, adding its voice to local issues of concern to the
writing community and promoting professional standards among its
members and recognition of the same among publishers, government and
the public.
Our members are proud to have hosted two national AGMs, first in 1998
and then in June 2008 where we welcomed members from
across Canada for four days of workshops, speakers and lively exchanges
of professional experience, advice and camaraderie.
To coincide with this 2008 event, PWAC Manitoba established a
new, ongoing Scholarship
Award for outstanding writing
skills.
Those eligible must be enrolled as a mature student of the
Red
River College Creative Communications Program.
